Chapter 24

Join the Movement

The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall.

CHE GUEVARA

When I started writing this book, I quickly realized how much need there really is around the subject of Content Inc. In addition, as a Content Inc. believer myself, how could I “just” write a book and not include a number of additional resources. Simply put, I needed to eat my own dog food.

So here’s my list of important and useful resources to help support your Content Inc. initiative: The Content Inc. website. Content Inc. has an official website as part of the Content Marketing Institute ecosystem. You can access all the site content at http://www.content-inc.com. Be sure to sign up to receive the e-newsletter updates, where you’ll see our free webinars and upcoming events, as well as some epic content.

The Content Inc. podcast. Every Monday and Tuesday I release short podcast episodes, which are always less than 15 minutes long. I try to keep them very actionable — and depending on how fast you run, three episodes equals about a 5-kilometer run. To sign up via iTunes or Stitcher, go to http://cmi.media/CI-podcast.

The Content Inc. Summit. As part of Content Marketing World, every September in Cleveland, Ohio, we hold a one-day event dedicated to the Content Inc. model. The event takes place toward the front half of the month (and always depends on when Labor Day falls in the United States). For more information on that event, go to http://cmi.media/CI-summit.

NEXT-GENERATION CONTENT INC.

As you progress in your Content Inc. journey, you’ll get to the point where you’ll need even more resources and insights to keep growing. Here are some resources that will help: Epic Content Marketing. My third book will help you build in a segmentation and engagement cycle as you develop your product and service offerings.

Experiences: The 7th Era of Marketing by Robert Rose and Carla Johnson. As your business grows, creating even more amazing experiences through content is imperative. Robert and Carla will show you how.

Digital Relevance by Ardath Albee. Ardath is a leading expert on nurturing leads and integrating content into your business. Before you purchase any technology platforms for your marketing automation, read this book (http://cmi.media/CI-ardath).

Smartcuts by Shane Snow. Shane covers a number of Content Inc. examples in his book that looks at, not shortcuts to developing audiences, but smarter strategies (hence, Smartcuts).

Everybody Writes by Ann Handley. Content Inc. (the book) is not designed to help you learn how to effectively write, but Ann’s book is. If you need writing help, get this book.

Art of the Start 2.0 by Guy Kawasaki. When I launched my business, Art of the Start was the first book I read, and it made an immediate impact. Guy has updated the book, and it’s simply fantastic (http://cmi.media/CI-ArtStart).

UnSelling and UnMarketing by Scott Stratten. Scott uses the worst social media case studies in the world to teach businesses how to create an authentic presence on the web without using hard selling or marketing tactics (http://cmi.media/CI-stratten).

In addition to the hundreds of resources found in this book, there are some additional sites you’ll want to check out to help you in your efforts: Sorry for Marketing blog. Jay Acunzo’s fantastic blog, heavy on content creation and analysis (http://cmi.media/CI-sorry).

Orbit Media blog. When I have a website question, I usually go to Andy Crestodina’s blog for help (http://cmi.media/CI-orbit).

Convince & Convert. Yes, it has great helpful content, but if you want to see how a great Content Inc. model works, just see what Jay Baer does (http://cmi.media/CI-convince).

TopRank Online Marketing blog. Lee Odden has developed his own Content Inc. platform at TopRank, where he and his team discuss the most pressing marketing challenges on the planet (http://cmi.media/CI-toprank).

FINAL THOUGHTS

Even though it’s not as easy as it used to be (because there are more people contacting me—a good problem), I still try to respond to as many tweets and e-mails as I can. You can find me on Twitter @JoePulizzi and on e-mail at joe@zsquaredmedia.com. Although I’ve cut my speaking back a bit, I still do a number of keynotes throughout the year. If you are interested in finding out more about having me speak at your event, you can get all the details at JoePulizzi.com.

Thank you for taking the time to read this book. I truly hope it was a valuable experience for you.

Now go out and make life happen. Be epic!
