This is first detective story about famous Hercule Poirot and his younger partner Arthur. Arthur Hastings came back from Great War. He was invited by his friend to live in a country house in Essex. The owner of that house was the friend’s stepmother. To Arthur’s surprise this seventy years old woman married to a man who was twenty years younger than her. The marriage was a few months ago. It turned out a big problem for his friend. His late father owned the house and now this husband could get the inheritance. The house was huge and a big family lived in it. All the family members hated stepmother’s husband. Arthur also disliked him. The family had many scandals and tried to warn mother that this gigolo would kill her in order to get her money…

It is a quite unusual detective story where each character has a motive to commit a crime. The scene is laid in a fictional English village. The novel is narrated in the third person. Dr James Sheppard becomes an assistant of Hercule Poirot. This is he, who tells the story to the reader. Mrs Ferrars, a rich widow, died. The reason was the drugs overdose. The peasants believe it was a suicide. They say Mrs Ferrars killed her husband by poisoning many years ago. But then another widower died. He wanted to marry Mrs Ferrars. People started suspecting his sister-in-law because she had many debts. Her daughter Flora, major Blunt and many relatives of the late bridegroom are suspected. The bride of the prime suspect asks Poirot to investigate this difficult case and find the killer.

Even his vacation the detective can't spend without work. Hercule Poirot and his assistant captain Arthur Hastings came to the coast of Cornwall in Southern France to have a nice rest. Occasionally Poirot learnt about big problems of the End House owner. End House is situated not far from Poirot's hotel on the top of a high hill. Young mademoiselle Nick Buckley is the latest heir of her family, who owns this estate. End House has a long history. And now a danger is threatening Nick Buckley. First her car’s brakes failed. Then a huge boulder fell on her head but she miraculously survived. However, nobody believed her. When Poirot discovered a hole from a bullet in her hat he realized the danger. The detective started an investigation. The results will amuse not only the readers but also the main character.

This case made our hero think not only with his head, but also with his heart. The passengers of one of the most luxurious trains in Europe could not even imagine that their journey would turn out this way. At the beginning, everything was fine. But later everyone was shocked by the news. One of the passengers had been killed. All thirteen people who travel in this unblessed train carriage are under suspicion. No one knows the motives of the murder. And no one has an iron alibi. M. Hercule Poirot was accidentally travelling by this train. Being one of the best detectives in the world, he started investigating this case. So, the usual journey turned into one of the most fascinating riddles in history. The detective had to solve the murder as soon as possible, until the killer struck a new blow...

This story is told by faithful friend of Hercule Poirot. Old friends used to work together solving crimes, haven't seen each other for years. Captain Arthur Hastings has married and left for South Africa. Poirot himself already retired and worked as private detective. Hastings was passing through London and decided to visit an old friend at his new apartments. Capitan had noticed that Poirot had not changed a lot – famous detective still wit, his mustache still big and beautiful, and he still helps police with their investigations. During the meeting of former colleagues Poirot received a letter from a criminal who challenged him. Author signed as someone mysteries 'ABC' and proposed to solve a crime that will be committed in future. So again Poirot and his partner would work together solving a complicated case.

After the funeral is a book written by the legendary British author Agatha Christie. It is a classical detective novel full of suspense and plot twists. As usual, A. Christie demonstrates great attention to details and knowledge of human psychology. The book is intriguing from the very beginning. A wealthy old man Richard Abernethie dies after a long illness. After the funeral his numerous relatives gather to hear the will. Suddenly Richard’s sister Cora shocks everyone suggesting that he didn't die a natural death. However, nobody takes her words seriously until the woman herself is found murdered. The famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is ready to investigate this unusual story. But the case is not easy as mysterious events keep happening and everyone around is a suspect.

Different things disappear in an ordinary hostel for students. The residents at Hickory Road do not panic considering it nonsense. A book, a bag or a lamp are not very valuable. You can easily forget about them. But the famous detective Hercule Poirot believes that the events are more serious than they seem at first glance. After all, the list of stolen things looks rather unusual. After a while they find the corpse of one of the inhabitants. It was a murder staged to look like a usual suicide. The case which seemed innocuous, takes a very serious turn. Will the detective be able to save the situation? Will he show his genius once again? The children's verselet, that became the title of the novel, sounds really ominously. The novel's atmosphere perfectly emphasizes this.

A sophisticated detective Poirot has to solve another tangled case. One evening he had an unexpected guest. A schoolgirl Julia Upjohn told about series of awful crimes at her school 'Meadowbank' – from kidnapping to murders. Such series of crimes couldn't be solved sitting on a chair, so Hercule rushed to mentioned school immediately. The investigation followed to the begging of the first offenses that started during revolution in the Palace of Ramat two months ago. Prince of Ramat and his private pilot were surrounded by rebels and were close to death. The only thing Prince wanted to save from Palace was a leather pouch full of jewels of value more than million pounds. In desperation Price gave such precious pouch to his pilot and asked him to get it out of the country. The confused pilot had found best solution was to hide treasure in his sister and daughter's own baggage.

What is strange about death in the subway? The police are sure that's an accident. But Anna Beddingfeld saw the murderer. She is confident about it and decides to find him. The note with the date and the address, which she found on the platform, helps her. She knows what to do. But Anna does not even suspect that there is one more victim. And what is the connection between these two people? The Man in the Brown Suit knows the answer. And Anna manages to find him... As always, Agatha Christie wrote an intriguing detective story. The author surprised her readers. The famous Belgian Hercule Poirot gave way to the tiny girl. And Anna proved to be a good detective. The fans of the series Bones will estimate this compelling novel.
